Located in the heart of the medieval town of Besse, Saint-André church is built on a lava flow. Classified as a Historic Monument since 1886, the building was constructed of lava stone in a predominantly Romanesque style, then remodeled in the 15th century in a Gothic style. Every winter, an apse in the choir houses the transhumant statue of the Black Madonna: Notre Dame de Vassivière.
