This castral chapel was built inside the bailey adjacent to the château, of which only a few fortification remains.
The exterior of the building was extensively remodeled in the 19th century. For a long time, Saint-Pierre church was a treasure trove. But it was only in 1965 that a rare collection of wall frescoes was discovered in the choir. In Romanesque style, although executed late in the early 14th century, these paintings present a grandiose – almost life-size – scene of Christ in majesty, surrounded by the symbols of the four evangelists and the twelve apostles.
The frescoes cover the barrel vault and the walls, including the splaying of the three narrow Romanesque bays illuminating the apse.
Ideally placed for the contemplation of the faithful during services, they radiated their almighty beauty to deliver biblical precepts to parishioners.
