La Fontaine de la Godivelle

It stands in the middle of the square. In the past, it was used to water cattle in winter. Calves, cows and bulls in the village stables (which had no water supply) had this daily rendezvous ; the water in the lakes was inaccessible because of the snow.

It stands in the middle of the square. In the past, it was used to water cattle in winter. Calves, cows and bulls in the village stables (which had no water supply) had this daily rendezvous ; the water in the lakes was inaccessible because of the snow.
The fountain is fed directly from the upper lake and was also used to prevent building fires. Thatched roofs and barns full of hay are ideal for the rapid development of flames.
Today, the fountain remains one of the village’s pride and joys, serving as a watering hole for a few cows, horses and dogs. The water flowing from the 4 taps is perfectly drinkable, making it an ideal place for hikers, cyclists, horse riders and their mounts.

Just a few metres down the road is the wash-house, made up of two tubs and fed by the fountain.
