The shelters were dry-stone huts and a type of country building, built entirely without mortar, using locally quarried stone.
Having served as a temporary or seasonal shelter for farmers and shepherds in the 18th and 19th centuries, for their tools, animals and harvest, in a plot far from their permanent home.
