Motte castrale of Giat

Giat

The biggest and best preserved motte (raised area of ground from a motte and bailey castle) in the Auvergne with a height of 12m. It was erected in the 11th century at the command of an Auvergnat Count. A wooden tower of which there are no traces left , would have risen from it’s summit.
