Parc du Prélong

This botanically rich 3.4-hectare park is covered with around 700 trees, all of which are listed, and comprises 40% deciduous trees (28 species) and 60% coniferous trees (24 species). You’ll discover some fine specimens from many continents, including :

This botanically rich 3.4-hectare park is covered with around 700 trees, all of which are listed, and comprises 40% deciduous trees (28 species) and 60% coniferous trees (24 species). You’ll discover some fine specimens from many continents, including :
– Giant Sequoias, the largest of which is around 8.80 m in circumference and around 160 years old, while the second is over 7.50 m in circumference.
– an Atlas Cedar with a circumference of 3.80 m
– a Japanese Sophora over 4 m in circumference

The French-style garden, with its symmetrical boxwood borders, contrasts with the apparent freedom of the English-style park.
The park is planted with spring-flowering ornamental shrubs (magnolias, rhododendrons, kalmias, azaleas, etc.), local species (beech, sessile oak, maple, ash, wild cherry, hawthorn, hazelnut, bird’s sorb, pectin fir, Scots pine….), and others that were still new in the mid-19th century (redwoods, Douglas firs, American oaks, Lawson cypresses…) ;

The greenhouse was dedicated to the production of flowers for beds and flowerbeds, and to the conservation of orange trees, bay trees, gardenias and camellias. Seven gardeners were employed year-round.
The Prélong property was acquired by the commune of Murol in 1966.

Picking prohibited, access free of charge.
