Beaune-le-Froid is a small mountain village, the second-largest town in the Murol commune, situated on a high plateau. It is a very active farming village, renowned for its Saint-Nectaire fermier AOP cheeses, which have been made here since the 16th century. It’s a great place to take a walk and discover local know-how. The village has preserved its water mill and wash-house.

In 2011, its bread oven was completely rebuilt by volunteers from the “chantiers de jeunesse” association. In 2014, other young members of this association helped restore the “cellar path” where farmers refine their Saint-Nectaire cheese.

At the beginning of July, the Saint-Nectaire fair will give you the chance to meet producers of cheese and other local produce. Happy tasting !

In winter, enjoy the ungroomed trails of the Beaune-le-Froid forest, on snowshoes or Nordic skis.
