The washhouse, once a lively place for washing clothes, now a reminder of bygone days, remains a typical example of rural architecture.
There are several types of washhouse : closed brick washhouses, wooden washhouses, covered washhouses, open washhouses…

In Auvergne, there are more than fifty washhouses, all very different from one another and in very different states of preservation.

In La Bourboule, you’ll discover 3 of them on your stroll :
– one in Place de Quaire
– one in rue du Portugal
– one in the village of Pregnoux (overlooking La Bourboule).
