Bread ovens. Each village (or hamlet) had its own bread oven, built of ashlar and covered in slate.
Many of these ovens are now in ruins, their use having gradually ceased after the war. In the commune of Picherande, there were 35 ‘fours banaux’ (bread is the most important staple because it’s a nourishing food. No meal is complete without bread, which is made once a week and baked in the village “four banal”). The Four de Tinaire was restored in the late 1990s. For several years now, Picherande has celebrated Heritage Day around the Four de Tinaire.
