Route description

Lac d’Aydat is a volcanic reservoir. After circumnavigating the lake and enjoying panoramic views of the volcanoes, the path leads the walker to the pontoons above the Aydat wetland, a place rich in flora and fauna.

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step :

Étape 1 : From the start sign, walk down to the tourist office and turn left along the lake. Cross the footbridge, join the road and follow it to the right for 450 m until you reach a path on the right after the bridge.

Étape 2 : Take this, then follow the 1st road on the right leading to the campsite entrance and take the path on the right between the campsite and the lake. Cross 2 footbridges and continue until you reach a road. Turn right for 50 m and continue along the right-hand path. At the T junction, turn right onto chemin du pont de l’Arche, cross the bridge and continue (lookout point overlooking the lake, theme plaque). At the intersection, turn right, then left at the next intersection and keep right (view of the lake and Puy de Dôme) until you reach the village of Poudure.

Étape 3 : Take the route de Poudure. At the crossroads at the entrance to Aydat, turn right, passing the town hall and the church on the right. Follow rue du stade and immediately after the soccer pitch fork left. Follow the footbridges over the wetland to the road. Follow the road to the right to reach the starting point.
