Route description

The Morge rises in the heart of the Combrailles region, near the Etang de Lachamps in Manzat. Calmer as it enters the plain, the river has created small meanders favourable to alluvial forests.

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step

Step 1 : Du panneau de départ, monter la rue du Château d’Eau. À la fourche, prendre à gauche et monter jusqu’au replat. À une nouvelle fourche, suivre à droite jusqu’à un croisement en T (vue sur la vallée de la Morge, le puy de Blomont, le plateau des Combrailles).

Step 2 : Monter à gauche, puis à 30m à droite sur un chemin entre deux pâturages. À la jonction avec un autre grand chemin, descendre en face sur 100 m puis monter à gauche. À la D 413, continuer en face. Au croisement en T, prendre à droite sur quelques mètres jusqu’à un autre croisement.

Step 3 : Descendre à gauche, franchir la Morge. Au croisement en T, poursuivre à droite (au premier replat, vue sur l’étang de Lachamp ; panneau d’information) jusqu’à une route goudronnée (croix en pierre).

Step 4 : Gagner le hameau de Laty par la droite. Prendre la première rue à gauche puis à droite. À la sortie de Laty, monter le chemin à gauche. Au croisement, prendre en face, le long du bois de résineux. Franchir un ruisseau à gué et monter en face. Rejoindre un grand chemin que l’on suit à droite sur 30 m. Face à une croix de bois peint, emprunter le chemin à gauche. Poursuivre en forêt en ignorant tous les chemins montant à gauche et continuer jusqu’à la D 418.

Step 5 : ? ? À la première maison de Montbuisson, descendre à droite vers la Morge, obliquer à gauche pour la longer puis à droite pour la franchir. Monter jusqu’à la D 413. Poursuivre en face ; au bâtiment agricole, descendre à gauche vers le hameau des Barrats. Sur la placette (croix mémoriale dans un jardin privé), prendre à gauche jusqu’à la D416, que l’on emprunte à droite sur 300 m. S’engager dans le premier chemin à droite. Ce chemin oblique à gauche puis rejoint Les Sardiers. À la première maison du hameau, descendre à droite.
À tous les croisements suivants, continuer en face, jusqu’à Manzat. Longer la Place du 14 Juillet 1789 et 50 m avant le stop suivre à droite un sentier direction “centre bourg”. Monter sur la rive gauche d’un ruisseau. À la route, aller à gauche. À la fontaine, monter à droite pour rejoindre le point de départ.

Access

Drive to Manzat, 33km north-northwest of Clermont-Ferrand. In Manzat, climb up in front of the church, then towards the René Cassin college. Departure sign and parking lot behind the college.
