From the charming village of Sauret-Besserve, you descend to the banks of the Sioule and the pretty Trois Curves waterfall. This walk offers many breathtaking views over the valley and ends on the wild Combrailles plateaux.
– The Sioule and the cascade des trois cuves.
– Site of the Resistance.
Step 1 : From the start sign, head towards the church and turn left down the road towards Chabassière. Pass the houses and follow the dirt track to a road.
Step 2 : Follow it to the left, cross Bayet, then the railroad line. Continue as far as the D 523 (picnic area) and turn left for 100 m. Take the first left, then cross Besserve. After the hamlet, approaching the D 523 again, turn left onto the grassy path (signposted “Site de la Résistance”). At the small road, go down to the left, until you come out of the Fournial hamlet.
Step 3 : At the last house in the hamlet, turn right, then left at the fork 50 m further on. Descend through the forest to a clearing on the banks of the Sioule. At the bend in the clearing, take the flat path to the left, overlooking the Sioule loop. After the hydro-electric power station, climb up to the D 513. Follow it down to the right, through the hamlet of Chambonnet to the “Site de la Résistance” sign.
Step 4 : Turn left into the street, pass a stele and continue right along the path that runs alongside the Sioule and leads to the cascade des trois cuves. Retrace your steps, and at the stele, climb right between the houses of the hamlet. Cross the D 513 and continue uphill. At a fork, keep left to rejoin the D 513. Turn left again to return to the starting point.
