Route description

A walk on a remarkable geological site where erosion has left us spectacular shapes including fairy chimneys and offered cave dwellings to the first occupants of the site (prehistoric). One of the most spectacular sites in Auvergne.

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step

Step 1 : Du panneau de départ, se diriger vers le pont, traverser la Couze Pavin, tourner à droite à la croix de fer puis partir encore à droite jusqu’à la Couze. Emprunter la passerelle, aller en face, traverser la rue principale et monter la rue du Coudert. Traverser la place (PP1 : bac et croix), continuer par la rue du Coudert et prendre à gauche le chemin des Triavaux. À l’intersection, virer à droite, (affleurements de sédiments colorés et formes érosives en cheminée de fée). Continuer jusqu’au deuxième chemin à gauche.

Step 2 : L’emprunter (PV1 : vue sur les villages de la vallée de la Couze Pavin). Aller tout droit jusqu’au village de Pardines. Le traverser par la rue de la Loubeyre, puis la place du Maréchal Ferrand et la rue des Lavandières jusqu’à l’église (PP2 : église romane).

Step 3 : Monter à droite rue de la Chaux et passer à droite de la carrière. Continuer jusqu’au carrefour et prendre à gauche en direction de Boissac. Traverser un croisement et descendre jusqu’au château (PP3 : château).

Step 4 : Monter à droite un chemin goudronné, aller tout droit jusqu’à la route, la traverser et poursuivre jusqu’à l’embranchement en T. Aller à droite puis, à 500 m, virer à gauche. Laisser un chemin à gauche et continuer jusqu’à une intersection.

Next step

Step 5 : Tourner à gauche pour longer le rebord du plateau (PV2 : large panorama). Ignorer le chemin à gauche au niveau de la croix, et continuer jusqu’au croisement.

Step 6 : Descendre le sentier à droite. Après quelques virages en lacets, longer le site des Grottes (PP4 : village des Roches). Dans le chemin des Grottes, tourner à gauche (PP5 : four banal et métier à ferrer) puis à droite, rue des Grottes, traverser la rue principale et rejoindre le parking sous l’église.

Additional information

For your own safety, always take a bottle of water, a hat, warm clothing and footwear suitable for walking.
Depending on weather conditions, certain itineraries are not recommended in bad weather (fog) or are not practicable, or even forbidden, during the winter season.
Some sites are fragile, so stay on the marked trails. Avoid picking wild flowers and disturbing wildlife. Pick up your garbage.
Animals are not allowed on some routes.
