Route description

This tour lets you discover the skills and know-how of the Livradois region around the theme of water and nature.

Leaving Ambert and its round town hall behind, you’ll make your way up to the Richard de Bas mill, where paper is still being made using ancient methods and equipment that has hardly changed in centuries.

You then reach Arlanc, a sedimentary basin between the Dore and Dolore rivers.(…)

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step

Step 1 : Vous quitterez Ambert et sa mairie ronde et remonterez jusqu’au moulin Richard de Bas où l’on continue à fabriquer du papier selon des méthodes anciennes et avec un matériel qui n’a guère changé depuis des siècles.

Step 2 : Vous rejoignez Arlanc, bassin sédimentaire, entre les rivières Dore et Dolore. Vous pouvez faire une pause au Jardin pour la Terre, où vous partirez à la découverte de milliers d’espèces de plantes du monde entier.

Step 3 : Enfin, vous remonterez la vallée de la Dolore, entre prés et bois en passant par Saint-Bonnet-le-Chastel où l’on peu découvrir les vestiges d’un château.

Environ 3 h 25 pour une vitesse moyenne de 20 km/h.
