Discover, admire, and borrow contemporary art to enjoy at home !
Located in the heart of the La FAC cultural complex (formerly the Fontmaure Hospital) in Chamalières, just outside Clermont-Ferrand, the Artothèque is a unique cultural institution in the Clermont-Ferrand metropolitan area. It is part of the network of fifty public art libraries in France.
The concept : art accessible to everyone
Just like a library or media center, the Artothèque allows everyone—individuals, local governments, businesses, schools, and organizations—to borrow original contemporary artworks to display in their homes or workplaces.
An exceptional collection
• A rich and varied collection : The city of Chamalières offers a catalog of over 500 works (prints, lithographs, silkscreen prints, engravings, photographs, etc.), drawn from a collection of more than 5,000 pieces slated for cataloging.
• On-site permanent exhibition : About 100 works are on free display in La FAC’s exhibition space, with the selection regularly updated to spark curiosity and inspiration.
How does it work ?
Membership is open to everyone—whether you’re a resident of Chamalières, live in the greater metropolitan area, or are just visiting. After purchasing a pass or membership, you can choose your artworks from the catalog or directly on-site, and take them home for a set period of time. The on-site team will provide you with advice on care and interpretation.
