During his career as an artist, Victor Charreton traveled above all to paint the luminous richness of landscapes and the life of the seasons. In his day, he was known as an outstanding colorist. It was during the second Salon d’Automne exhibition, where he presented several paintings, that this revelation came to him. The confrontation with works such as Henri Matisse’s “La cage aux fauves”, with its formidable colors, turned his vision of painting and color treatment upside down. He embarked on a quest for “perfect and faithful” color, which he pursued to the end of his life. His work is imbued with an emotional sense of the passage of time, of the traces left by life on landscapes, over the course of the seasons.
