Verneugheol is a tourist village set in a landscape of hedged farmland, woods and ponds. The views of the Sancy massif and the many waterholes, including the bucolic Malganne pond, make this a very pleasant walk.
– Malganne pond.
– View of the Monts Dore.
Étape 1 : Opposite the signpost, turn left onto the D564. After 300 m, take the track on the left; at the first crossroads, turn right, join a road and continue straight ahead. Keep right through the hamlet of Le Glufareix. At a right-angled bend in the road, cross the fence on the left and drive alongside the barbed wire. Leave the meadow, continue on a track and pass a stream. Turn left to reach the road. Turn left for 150 m and then right just past the entrance porch to Barmontel castle. After 350 m (view of the Monts Dores), turn right onto the road, cross over a pond embankment and, after 300 m, fork right onto the track. At the fork in the road, turn left and continue until you come to a crossroads at the horn of the wood.
Étape 2 : Turn right at an acute angle and follow this track (1.3 km). Cross a road and continue straight ahead for 400 m. At the start of a curve, turn left along a fence to cross a meadow. Reach a tree-lined track which shortly after joins a carriageway; take this to the right until you reach a crossroads in a clearing. Turn right and, at the D564 road, continue straight ahead. Turn left onto a side track and then right, as far as a T-junction.
Étape 3 : Go right; at the next crossroads, take a path through the undergrowth that joins a track near the microlight runway. Take this path on the left (with a view of the Etang de Malganne), walk past the weir of the Etang de Malganne, ignore the side paths and enter the hamlet of Angoilas. At the T-junction in the village, turn left then right. As you climb the hill, fork left to return to Verneugheol.
