A hike in a protected environment to discover the Volvic springs, the Volvic stone born of molten lava and why not make a detour to the Tournoël castle.

Step 1 : From the start sign, climb left to the crossroads. Turn right onto a very wide track. At the next junction, climb left to a road (view of the Chaine des Puys and Monts du Forez).
Step 2 : Turn right and cross La Coussedière (Rue du Sauzet then Route de Rochevert). At the fork in the road, turn right towards “Viallard”. Continue along the road and take the first track on the left. Stay on this path, ignoring intersections, until you reach a fork at the start of a climb. Turn right and continue to the road.
Step 3 : Follow the road to the left for 200 m, then take the left-hand path. Go uphill and turn right at the fork (view of the northern part of the Chaine des Puys, the Gergovie plateau, the Monts du Forez and La Madeleine). At the crossroads (power line), continue straight ahead until you reach a wide open space (view of the Gergovie plateau, Monts du Forez and La Madeleine, Limagne, Riom, Volvic).
Step 4 : Turn right and stay on this main path downhill until you reach a crossroads. Turn right onto a track between 2 meadows and descend to a road. Cross the road and take the path opposite. Follow the road to the right towards “Source de Volvic” and reach the parking lot.

Depending on weather conditions, certain itineraries are not recommended in bad weather (fog) or are not practicable, or even forbidden, during the winter season.
Some sites are fragile, so stay on the marked trails. Avoid picking wild flowers and disturbing wildlife. Pick up your garbage.
Animals are not allowed on some routes.

Access
Volvic is 13 km north of Clermont-Ferrand, via Durtol. As soon as you pass under the D 986, which bypasses the town, turn right for 1.5 km uphill. Turn right, follow signs for “Source de Volvic” and reach the parking lot. The start sign is on the right just outside the parking lot.
