Route description
A remarkable hike for the built heritage of Mareugheol with one of the most beautiful villages in Auvergne and for the variety of landscapes and environments such as lime, streams and couzes. Nice views.
Starting point – Go down rue du Fort. Walk along the surrounding wall, cross the square between fountain and washhouse (fort, fountain and washhouse). Go left between two stone walls, go up to the second crossroads ; go left to a stone cross.

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step
Step 1 : Descendre rue du Fort. Longer le mur d’enceinte, traverser la place entre fontaine et lavoir (fort, fontaine et lavoir). Aller à gauche entre deux murs de pierres, monter jusqu’au deuxième carrefour ; partir à gauche jusqu’à une croix en pierre.
Step 2 : Poursuivre tout droit (vue sur le plateau de la chaux du Broc) en ignorant les chemins adjacents. À l’entrée du village de Villeneuve, à la croix, tourner à gauche jusqu’à l’église (château de Villeneuve-Lembron et tour carrée).
Step 3 : Monter à droite. Poursuivre par le chemin de Mousteloux jusqu’à une fourche. Aller à droite (autre PR en face), monter dans le bois le chemin entre murets jusque sur le plateau (la chaux de Villeneuve). Tourner à gauche sur la sente. Après la clôture, rester sur le chemin principal jusqu’à une intersection avec un large chemin au niveau du relais hertzien.
Step 4 : Prendre à droite (point de vue). Progresser entre pacages et taillis de feuillus. Passer devant le réservoir d’eau avant de descendre jusqu’à une route. La traverser et descendre par le chemin du Moulin jusqu’à une intersection avant un bâtiment (ancien moulin).

Step 5 : Prendre à droite au dessus de celui-ci, longer le ruisseau sur 500 m, monter à droite le petit sentier menant au village de Pouzeix. Le traverser (four à pain, cuvier pour la lessive, métier à ferrer). Couper la route, passer sous la ligne à haute tension, poursuivre sur 700 m environ jusqu’à l’intersection avec un petit sentier en sous bois.
Step 6 : Descendre à droite le chemin chaotique entre murets de pierres. Dans la descente, à gauche : cabane de berger. À la fourche, aller à gauche. À la vue du village en contrebas, aller tout droit et descendre à Mareugheol pour revenir au départ.

Additional information
For your own safety, always take a bottle of water, a hat, warm clothing and footwear suitable for walking.
Depending on weather conditions, certain itineraries are not recommended in bad weather (fog) or are not practicable, or even forbidden, during the winter season.
Some sites are fragile, so stay on the marked trails. Avoid picking wild flowers and disturbing wildlife. Pick up your garbage.
Animals are not allowed on some routes.

At Issoire, south of Clermont-Ferrand, take the D32 towards Solignat, then the D717 to Mareugheol.
