Route description

From the Ussel plateau, you can see the couzes and Dore mountains, and the beautiful village of Malnon. A visit to the nearby Cistercian abbey of Mégemont, founded in 1206, is not to be missed. A beautiful tour.

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step

Step 1 : Du panneau de départ, rejoindre le cimetière, prendre à gauche la D23 jusqu’au village de Pouchenirgue.

Step 2 : Après le lavoir, monter à droite et continuer tout droit ce chemin goudronné jusqu’à la route. Partir à gauche, puis la quitter par le premier chemin à droite. Après le grand virage à droite, descendre en ignorant les deux chemins à gauche, (vue sur le massif du Sancy, le pic de Brionnet avec la chapelle Notre-Dame-du-Mont-Carmel et le puy de Dôme)jusqu’au croisement.

Step 3 : Prendre le large chemin de droite pour monter sur le plateau d’Ussel. Au croisement en T, partir à droite, aller jusqu’à la route et l’emprunter à gauche. La quitter pour le premier chemin à gauche et monter jusqu’au croisement. Bifurquer à droite et descendre (vue sur les Monts du Livradois et du Forez) jusqu’au croisement en T. Tourner à droite pour descendre jusqu’à la D23. La suivre à gauche, puis emprunter à droite la petite route qui rejoint Chassagne. Traverser le village (église et maison à pignons latéraux avec redents) pour rejoindre le point de départ.

Additional information

For your own safety, always take a bottle of water, a hat, warm clothing and footwear suitable for walking.
Depending on weather conditions, certain itineraries are not recommended in bad weather (fog) or are not practicable, or even forbidden, during the winter season.
Some sites are fragile, so stay on the marked trails. Avoid picking wild flowers and disturbing wildlife. Pick up your garbage.
Animals are not allowed on some routes.

Access

From Perrier (west of Issoire), leave the D996 for the D26 towards Saint-Floret. After 2 km, take the D23 towards Tourzel and continue to the village of Chassagne. At the cemetery, turn left to park in front of the Monument aux Morts.
