Route description
From Sauvagnat, a former Carolingian courtyard, we progress on the slopes of the Puy de Neyrand with long rows of lavender blending with orchards and beautiful vegetable gardens in front of wealthy houses dating back to before the phylloxera crisis.
Starting point – At the top of the square, take the Trézins path. Go up to the first track on the left.

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step
Step 1 : En haut de la place, s’engager dans le chemin des Trézins. Monter jusqu’au premier chemin à gauche.
Step 2 : Le suivre en direction du bosquet. En haut de la côte prendre le petit chemin à gauche, accès au « Puy Neyrand » : AR 20 minutes (vue sur Chaîne des Puys, Sancy et Cézallier). Au retour, poursuivre le sentier en balcon (vue sur St Yvoine, Issoire, le Livradois), et descendre jusqu’à une intersection en T.
Step 3 : Se diriger à gauche. Avant la ligne à haute tension, descendre le chemin sur la droite. À la patte d’oie, suivre le chemin herbeux descendant en direction du vallon jusqu’à la D 712.
Step 4 : Descendre cette route sur 100 m. Prendre à droite avant le pont. Traverser une zone de jardins. Arrivé rue J. Aujame, prendre tout de suite à gauche le chemin de la Tarraie jusqu’au premier sentier qui monte à gauche.

Step 5 : Le suivre jusqu’au sommet (rocher de Racoulat), bifurquer en direction des deux pylônes et tourner tout de suite à gauche pour descendre vers Sauvagnat. Monter la rue de la Dray puis la rue de la Conche. À la fontaine, descendre la rue du Bac. Tourner à gauche dans la rue principale. Place de la Fontaine, pénétrer dans le quartier du Fort. Tourner à gauche dans une impasse puis aller à droite. Monter des escaliers, prendre à droite puis à gauche la rue de l’Eglise et après celle-ci tourner de nouveau à gauche pour revenir au parking de départ.

Additional information
For your own safety, always take a bottle of water, a hat, warm clothing and footwear suitable for walking.
Depending on weather conditions, certain itineraries are not recommended in bad weather (fog) or are not practicable, or even forbidden, during the winter season.
Some sites are fragile, so stay on the marked trails. Avoid picking wild flowers and disturbing wildlife. Pick up your garbage.
Animals are not allowed on some routes.

Access
From Clermont-Ferrand take the A75 towards Issoire, leave at exit
n°9 and take the D713 towards Sauvagnat-Sainte-Marthe, then turn right onto the D712. As you enter Sauvagnat, turn left towards Mairie and park on Place du Creux-de-la-Grave.
