Route description

The hilltop church offers a breathtaking view of a meander in the Sioulet. The Sioulet, a tributary of the Sioule, attracts trout anglers in particular with its wild, unspoilt character. Plateaux and uninterrupted views round off the itinerary.

Trail highlights

The 12th-century church on a hillock and the “Back to the past” museum.

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step :

Étape 1 : From the start sign at the car park behind Miremont town hall, follow the stream along the left bank as far as the bridge. Cross it (shed: reconstruction of an old-fashioned wedding) and climb up. At the cross, go straight on (off the circuit, on the hillock: 12th century church – AR 20 minutes), descend, cross the bridge and continue to a dirt track.

Étape 2 : Turn right onto the dirt track and continue through the undergrowth up the Sioulet, sometimes between low walls. Follow the path as far as the footbridge, which you leave to the right (ruins of a mill) and continue along the water’s edge as far as a road.

Étape 3 : Follow it to the left for 200 m, take the first track on the right, go past the buildings, go up to the hamlet and turn right. When you reach the hill, take the path on the right, go down and cross the Sioulet by the footbridge. Go back up and, at the last house, take the second track on the right. At the road, continue straight ahead as far as the first bend.

Étape 4 : Take the path (view of the Chaîne des Puys). At the road (wooden cross), go downhill, then follow signs for Les Planeaux; enter the woods on a dirt track. At the crossroads, turn left and go downhill. Cross the bridge and return to the starting point on the right (opposite the town hall: “Retour sur le passé” museum).
