Route description

An area crossed by the Cheire d’Aydat flowing from the puys de la Vache and de Lassolas. The Monne flows into the valley in torrents, making the paths steep and cool, and offering fine panoramic views of the volcanoes.

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step

Step 1 : Du parking prendre le chemin à gauche, contournant le puy d’Auzenne jusqu’à la première intersection, (vue sur le puy d’Olloix, le massif du Sancy et les gorges de la Monne).

Step 2 : Emprunter le chemin à gauche (vue sur la chaîne des Puys, le plateau de la Serre, le plateau de Gergovie, les monts du Livradois-Forez, la vierge de Monton). Descendre un large sentier. Après la barrière espace naturel “Natura 2000” prendre le premier chemin à droite. Au-dessus de la rivière, emprunter la descente rapide aménagée et franchir la passerelle.

Step 3 : Partir à droite, suivre la sente longeant la Monne, passer 3 mains courantes pour arriver à la cascade et à la Marmite des Géants. Traverser le pont de Riberolles. Remonter en laissant le chemin à gauche jusqu’à la sortie de l’espace naturel “Natura 2000” (vue sur les gorges de la Monne et le bois de Pierre Longue).

Step 4 : Prendre le chemin à droite jusqu’aux rochers de granit (vue sur Saint-Saturnin, Saint-Amant-Tallende, le puy de Peyronère et le puy de Saint-Sandoux). À l’intersection, monter à droite. Après le cimetière d’Olloix, au niveau du gîte de groupe prendre à droite et rejoindre le point de départ (église et la tour de la Commanderie).

Additional information

For your own safety, always take a bottle of water, a hat, warm clothing and footwear suitable for walking.
Depending on weather conditions, certain itineraries are not recommended in bad weather (fog) or are not practicable, or even forbidden, during the winter season.
Some sites are fragile, so stay on the marked trails. Avoid picking wild flowers and disturbing wildlife. Pick up your garbage.
Animals are not allowed on some routes.

Access

From Clermont-Ferrand, take the A75. At exit 5, follow the D213 to the Saint-Saturnin/Chadrat crossroads. Turn left at Saint-Saturnin, cross it, turn left on the D28, then left on the D119 to Olloix. On leaving the village, park behind the chapel.
