From Charbonnières-les-Vieilles, the undulating path runs alongside the Morge river, with its remarkable vernacular heritage (wells, crosses, wash-houses, mills, etc.) and leads to the magnificent Gour de Tazenat (crater lake) with its splendid views of the Chaîne des Puys.
– Gour de Tazenat.
– Desniers mill (exhibition of miniature mill models).
– Flour mill and hemp mill.
– Restored cross, well and wash-house.
Étape 1 : From the multi-purpose hall, follow the road into the town centre and, opposite the church, turn left down the lane between the mission cross and the public weighing scales. Keep to the left and continue along the track as far as the water treatment plant. Turn right and, passing the small stone bridge on the right, go straight on to the road.
Étape 2 : Turn left for 250 m and, opposite the cross, take the track on the left. Go through the hamlet of Desniers then, at the crossroads, leave the road and take the first track on the right to find a small road. Follow it to the left and back (100 m) to the Desniers mill (exhibition of miniature mill models), then continue along the stream. At the crow’s feet, turn left and, after 150 m, take the first grassy path on the left. Go up until you reach a small road (50 m to the left and back: cross, restored well and wash-house; picnic table).
Étape 3 : Follow the road to the right, cross the hamlet of Les Palles and go down to the mill (exhibition of old tools) then, after 200 m, leave the road for a track on the left. At the T-junction, take the track on the left. At the bend in the road, keep to the right. Once you reach the ruins of the sawmill (flour mill and hemp mill), climb the track on the left to reach the ruins of a mill on the outskirts of the hamlet of Tazenat-bas.
Étape 4 : Just after the ruins, turn right onto a track that runs alongside a pond, then fork left to join and cross the D19. Follow this road to the left until you reach the end of the car park. Take the footpath that leads to the edge of the Tazenat gour (view of the gour site), turn left and continue to the small road at the horn of the wood.
Étape 5 : Go up to the right (high view of the gour). Continue along the road (with a view of the village of Charbonnières-les-Vieilles), which becomes a wide path until you reach a junction of four paths (signposted). Turn left towards Charbonnières. Continue along the tarmac track until you reach a crossroads. Take the track on the left. At the first houses, turn right onto the road. Continue straight on until you reach the multi-purpose hall.
