A lovely route to the hilltop village of Herment and its religious heritage, from where you can enjoy an exceptional view over five départements. Then on to Sioulet and the Trois Tourtes rock: three rocks piled one on top of the other.
View of the Sancy massif.
Étape 1 : From the start sign in the car park, return to the D987, cross it and follow rue de la Fontaine. At the corner with rue Ambroise Tardieu, walk up the street that runs alongside the church. At the intersection, turn left onto the Grande Rue. Turn right into the Allée de la Promenade. At the chapel, turn left down Rue de la Chapelle. At the D204, turn left out of Herment and then right onto the D82. Before the high-voltage line, turn left onto a track between two hedges. Ignore the track on the right, and at the next crossroads continue to the right until you come to a crossroads with several tracks.
Étape 2 : Turn right through the hamlet of Les Granges. Take the first track on the left at the edge of the forest. At the fork, turn right into the forest. At the next fork, keep right and head down towards the Sioulet valley, until you reach a road.
Étape 3 : Cross the bridge and take the path on the right to reach the Trois Tourtes site. Return to the path and, after the bridge, go left into the woods. At a T-junction, keep right until you reach a large clearing.
Étape 4 : Turn right onto a wide track and follow it, ignoring the side paths. At a flat spot, turn left and, 200 m further on in a clearing, go right on a grassy track as far as a cross track.
Étape 5 : Turn left (view of the Sancy massif) then right and left again. At the crossroads, take the track on the right. Go through Chantemerle and stay on the main track. At the top of the hill, continue straight ahead, passing under the high-voltage power line. Turn left after the stadium to return to Herment and the starting point.
