Fortified castle, listed as a historic monument. Built at the end of the 12th century and complete in the 15th century. There is a dungeon and six turets, it is still lived in today. A vegetable garden which is labelled as ‘remarkable’ and a silver mining museum exist in the grounds.
The castle includes a keep and six towers restored in the 19th century. The castle includes a keep and six towers restored in the 19th century. It retains its defensive aspect but the interior, harmoniously laid out, is warm with its wood panelling (classified M.H), its 17th and 18th century furniture and its many family souvenirs. Since 1756, it has always been inhabited by the family of the Counts of Pontgibaud. The château overlooks a rare sunken kitchen garden (classified M.H.), labelled Jardin Remarquable (Outstanding Garden).
The discovery can be completed by a visit to the Silver Mine Museum located in the outbuildings of the castle.
