The Church Saint-Géraud

Dauzat-sur-Vodable

In this village of a hundred or so inhabitants, on the edge of the Cézallier, the 12th-13th-century church of Saint-Géraud sits perched on its basalt peak. Discover the Romanesque sculpted capitals (open on request at the town hall).

Inside, the sculptures on the capitals, dating from the 13th century, reveal a transition between Romanesque and Gothic art, with naturalistic representations typical of Gothic art and faces or masks that retain the fantastic character dear to the Romanesque style (grimaces, little realism). There is also an ivory Christ.
