Puy Mardou

La Roche-Blanche

Puy Mardou is a small volcanic peak on the slopes of Gergovie.

In a land of hills, Puy Mardou juts out into the plain like the prow of the Gergovie plateau. A discovery trail invites you to discover the geology, flora and fauna (85 species of butterfly, including the Hermit, the Great Wood nigger…) of this exceptional but little-known hillside, just outside Clermont. Volcanoes, history and southern flora are sure to be on the menu.
A place where three main types of rock meet: limestone, basalt and a strange mixture known as “peperite”.
