Route description

From the land of “white asses to black asses” (La Dame des Ronces – Jean Anglade) on this tour of our beautiful Auvergne Tuscany, let yourself be guided, and the emotion of the landscapes and remarkable architectural heritage will do the rest.

Étape 1 : Passing the school, take the path up the puy de Jussat to the Col de Saint-Roch.

Étape 2 : Turn left down to the cemetery and join the church. Let yourself “flow” between vineyards, orchards and cereal fields, then follow in the footsteps of the d’Arvernia (part of the Clermont/Olloix route to Santiago de Compostela).

Étape 3 : (16th century). Ultreia! Turn right onto the D52. After 100 m, cross the road and take Rue de Viallevelours, which runs alongside Château de Varvasse and a fine character house.

Étape 4 : At the crossroads, continue left on the D3 towards Le Crest for 200 m to the Benetou country lane, which follows the Auzon and leads to the Commanderie des Hospitalliers and the Tour de l’Abbé Dellile.

Étape 5 : At the footbridge, cross the Auzon then turn right into Rue Côté du Prieuré. Pass in front of the former Château du Prieur. Join the church square via rue de la Mission, rue du Fossé and rue Saint-Pierre.

Étape 6 : Head towards Notre-Dame de l’Arbre via rue de la Fondette, rue du Chabris and rue du Voisin. Magnificent views over the village and valley. Turn right onto Route de La Bâtisse (D52) for 150m. Turn left through the housing estate to Chemin des Treize Boules.

Étape 7 : From here, there’s a fine panoramic view over the Auzon valley, Jussat, the Château de Busséol and the Livradois-Forez mountains, before descending to the Opme road. Stay on the left-hand edge of the D785 for 200m, then turn left towards Jussat. At the foot of the puy de la Rizolle, cross a bucolic landscape of vines and meadows, home to birds and game. Follow the D3 for 200m to the Saint-Julien cross, erected in 1864.

Étape 8 : From here, return to the start parking lot, with a view of the puy de Jussat and the “César” caves.
