Route description

This equestrian route invites riders to explore the picturesque landscapes of the Combrailles region of the Auvergne. The second leg from Chapdes-Beaufort takes you past Montfermy, the Sioule valley and the beach at La Chazotte.

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step :

Étape 1 : ?? At the D62, turn left, then right towards the church square. Turn left onto Rue du Muscadet, then right onto Rue Faudrouse.

Étape 2 : ?? Follow the PR to the village of Les Barras, then take the GR4 on the right. In Rue Jean Michel Pourtier, turn right then take the first path on the left to follow the PR until you reach a small road.
Go down it (on the right) and turn left just before the Mazière stream. Follow the path along the stream until you reach the GR and turn right to follow the Sioule to the road.

Étape 3 : ?? On the D418, turn right and rejoin the PR. At the junction of the PR and the GR4, on your left, you can see the Montfermy waterfall (you can take a break by the Sioule). Follow the GR4 along the Sioule to La Chartreuse (D61).

Étape 4 : ?? When you reach the D61, you can leave the route to the right to visit the ruins of Chartreuse Port Sainte Marie. Then follow the GR4 to La Serre, then the village of St-Jacques-d’Ambur. At the D61, continue straight ahead and leave the GR4. Take the path on the left after the cross. Turn left at the second path, then left again. The ruins of Château d’Ambur will be on your left. Continue straight on to Les Berthons, then turn left.

Étape 5 : ?? In front of the Ambur stables, turn left then right to rejoin the GR4. Descend to La Chazotte (where you can picnic by Lake Fades). Then follow the GR4 to Miremont (passing through Les Isserts and Boisse). Enjoy the view of the dam from the heights.

Étape 6 : ?? At the entrance to Miremont, follow the GR4, climb the Col, cross Le Sioulet and continue straight on to the D570. Climb towards Les Merciers Haut and follow the path to the road. Turn left.
The gîte is located at the top of the road, on your left, at the exit of Le Veyrial, at 289 route de la Chapelle.
