Route description

Don’t be scared ! Today, Tino and I are taking you on a tour of a volcano crater. You can even take a dip in the lake that has formed inside it. Don’t worry, the volcano has been dormant for 40,000 years…

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step

Step 1 : Du panneau de départ au bout du parking, prendre le chemin du lac. Poursuivre par le chemin à gauche en bordure du gour (panneau évoquant la légende du gour de Tazenat), (vue sur le gour). À l’entrée d’une grande propriété, continuer sur le chemin en face jusqu’à la route. Aller tout droit sur celle-ci, passer à hauteur d’un panneau d’information (vue sur la chaîne des Puys). Poursuivre le chemin principal jusqu’à une route.

Step 2 : Prendre la route à droite et poursuivre jusqu’à l’intersection après la maison blanche. Laisser la route des réservoirs, tourner de suite à droite sur le chemin qui descend dans le bois jusqu’à l’intersection à l’approche des premières maisons d’un hameau.

Step 3 : Descendre le chemin à droite jusqu’au niveau d’une barrière en bois sur la droite, la franchir et continuer le chemin jusqu’au bord du gour. Tourner à gauche et longer le gour. En vue des maisons, prendre à gauche et rejoindre le point de départ.

Additional information

For your own safety, always take a bottle of water, a hat, warm clothing and footwear suitable for walking.
Depending on weather conditions, certain itineraries are not recommended in bad weather (fog) or are not practicable, or even forbidden, during the winter season.
Some sites are fragile, so stay on the marked trails. Avoid picking wild flowers and disturbing wildlife. Pick up your garbage.
Animals are not allowed on some routes.

Access

From Manzat towards Charbonnières-les-Vieilles, on the D19. Park at the 1st parking lot at Gour de Tazenat.
