A hike around the largest dome in the Puys chain. A look at all these flanks, in an atmosphere of forests and summer pastures on the traversin, the central point of the chain, between Puy de Dôme and Puy du Pariou.
– Summit of the Puy de Dôme, the Traversin.
– Views of Petit Suchet and its caves.
– Puy du Pariou.
Étape 1 : Opposite the start sign, turn left onto the gravel path. Continue under a canopy of beech and hazelnut trees, then through pastures, which you cross until you reach a fork in the path (view to the left of Puy de Côme, Grand Suchet and Petit Suchet – caves).
Étape 2 : Keep right and continue under the hazel trees to the intersection with the GR.
Étape 3 : Climb to the right towards the Traversin plateau and reach the fountain (alt. 1,125 m).
Étape 4 : Go straight on past the sheep pen. Go down a pozzolana track to bypass the small puy de Dôme, cross a barrier and go to the crossroads a few metres further on.
Étape 5 : Leave the left-hand track and head downhill to a junction of four tracks.
Étape 6 : Turn right onto the path known as “des Gouris” to reach the road leading to the summit of puy de Dôme. Cross it, go straight on to the D68 and keep going straight ahead. Leave a track on your left, pass a crossroads of four tracks and continue through the woods to the next intersection.
Étape 7 : Turn right onto an undergrowth path and climb up to the D68 to reach the Col de Ceyssat parking lot, the starting point.
From 01/01 to 31/12.
