For one night, two nights or a week, if you want to discover Thiers, its immediate surroundings or the Livradois region, if you’re on a training course or a business trip to the city, and you’re looking for a small, independent town house with all the comforts and facilities you need to learn about the region : look no further !
This is an old townhouse (it already appeared on plans dating from the mid-18th century), restored and very well located, close to shops, the media library, cutlery workshops and the cutlery museum, the Maison du Tourisme, public transport and 1 kilometer from the SNCF train station. You won’t be able to park right next door, but there’s plenty of free parking in the immediate vicinity.
A former Thiers delicatessen (“comestibles” in the 20s and 30s, then a delicatessen), the shop window still remains, protected from view by thick curtains. In the two-storey cottage, you’ll find :
– on the first floor, a fully-equipped kitchen and dining area, and a small laundry room (with washing machine and washing line) ;
– on the second floor, you’ll find a cosy living room with TV, and a charming alcove with a library of over a hundred books on Thiers, the Puy-de-Dôme and the Auvergne (which you can read or browse through on a comfortable chaise longue…) ;
– on the second floor : two small bedrooms, one with a double bed (140cm), the other with a pull-out bed (2x90cm), a small bathroom and a separate toilet.
This cottage is ideal for a single person looking for a quiet place to spend a few nights, two individuals who need two bedrooms (we’ll have to agree on who gets the 90cm bed…), a couple without children or a couple with one or two children. It’s also ideal for people who love and respect books (they all belong to the owner, and he makes them freely available to his tenants, but he’s very fond of them…).
This cottage is not very suitable for very tall people (especially in the upstairs rooms), for the elderly and/or for people with reduced mobility (the stairs are narrow and steep). And it’s not very suitable for people who don’t like or respect books…
Otherwise, this “bicoque aux bouquins” will be a restful and enriching little place, a sweet spot for your stay in Thiers…
