The first traces of occupation of the Corent plateau date back to the Neolithic period, in the 4th millennium BC, but the first real village did not appear until the end of the Bronze Age, between 1000 and 800 BC.
Around 130 BC, the Arvernes, a Gallic people occupying most of today’s Auvergne, founded a sanctuary in the center of the plateau, marked by ritual banquets, around which the specialized districts of a true Gallic town, an oppidum, were built.
The Conseil départemental du Puy-de-Dôme is offering an archaeological tour of the theater and sanctuary at Corent. Signage and 3D videos available on smartphones help visitors imagine the Gallic town of Corent. Free admission.
