Route description
On the way to a circuit like no other! Atypical places, places of memory, remarkable heritage, we take you for a day off the beaten track, to discover the unusual corners of the north of Combrailles. Plan a bit of walking.
87 km long, this day tour can be adjusted according to the time you have and your desires!
Stage 1: Wood sculptures from the Planches pond (Sainte-Christine) – wood sculptures scattered around the pond (1 km walk) Stage 2: Menhir and arboretum in Bois des Brosses (Menat) – 4.35(…)
87 km long, this day tour can be adjusted according to the time you have and your desires!
Stage 1: Wood sculptures from the Planches pond (Sainte-Christine) – wood sculptures scattered around the pond (1 km walk) Stage 2: Menhir and arboretum in Bois des Brosses (Menat) – 4.35 m menhir and arboretum bringing together 27 species. Stage 3: Cuviers de la comtesse sanglante (La Faye, Menat) – vaters on the La Faye stream renowned for their bloody legend … Stage 4: Puits Saint-Joseph headframe (Saint-Eloy-les-Mines) – mining headframe 40m high. Possible visits to the Maison de la Mine Stage 5: La Cellette viaduct – 122 m long railway viaduct that can be walked on. Stage 6: Château de Pionsat, an air of Italian Renaissance (Pionsat) – immersion in the Italian Renaissance with part of the exterior of the Château. Stage 7: Piton de Quartz de Roche-d´Agoux – geological curiosity and point of view. Stage 8: Bost Buddhist temple (Biollet) – discovery of the exterior of the temple for a trip to Tibet. Stage 9: Maquis Nestor Perret (Saint-Julien-la-Geneste) – access on foot to the maquis area and discovery of a reconstruction of a maquisards hut. Stage 10: Notre-Dame des Blés Chapel (Gouttières) – unusual chapel and fabulous viewpoint over the Auvergne volcanoes. Stage 11: Cat Street Art – paintings in the streets of the town.
This circuit is for the curious, history buffs, nature buffs and unusual places, and requires a little walking (according to stages 1, 3, 5, 9 and 10).
