A long mountain bike loop offering varied scenery, from refreshing valleys to the foothills of the domes

Starting from the car park at the Grotte des Laveuses in Royat (or directly from Place Allard), the ‘From the Tiretaine Valley to the headwaters of the Artière by mountain bike’ circuit offers a wonderful off-road escape on the outskirts of the urban area. Running through the heart of the Auvergne Volcanoes Regional Nature Park, the route alternates between forest tracks, open paths and sections through the undergrowth.

Highlights of the mountain bike route :
• Varied terrain : Cycle along the banks of the Tiretaine, ride through the shade of the Royat State Forest and wind your way through the pastures stretching out beneath the volcanoes.
• Very gentle terrain : Although the route climbs towards the plateau, the ascent is very smooth and gradual, with no sudden changes in gradient.
• Views & atmosphere : Enjoy remarkable views of the surrounding landscape throughout the ride.

Departure :
– By car from Royat, in the Grotte des laveuses parking lot on the banks of the Tiretaine, below Avenue de la Vallée.
– By bus from Place Allard up the Tiretaine (5mn)
– From the “Tiretaine” directional mast, take the stairs to “Puy de Chateix”.

Difficulties : Long hike, but very gradual ascent.
