A challenging and scenic mountain bike route through vineyard-dotted valleys and volcanic hills
Starting from the Place de la Résistance in Ceyrat (or from the Arténium car park), the mountain bike version of the ‘Les puys de Montrognon et Chomontel’ route offers a beautiful, challenging loop on the outskirts of Clermont-Ferrand. Winding through the old vineyard-covered hillsides and climbing the slopes of the volcanic hills, this route offers a very varied profile, alternating between sprints, challenging climbs and superb viewpoints.
Highlights of the mountain bike route : • Conquering the volcanic hills : Challenging climbs towards the outskirts of Montrognon and Chomontel, rewarded with spectacular panoramic views of the city and the surrounding mountains. • A varied route : Forest tracks, dirt tracks through the vineyards and more technical sections on single-track trails. • Through the history of wine-growing : An idyllic ride through the hamlets of Ceyrat and Clémensat, where the terraced vineyards still leave a strong impression.
Practical information & Technical profile : • Start / Finish : Place de la Résistance — near the Town Hall (63122 Ceyrat) — Alternative : Arténium car park. • Type : Mountain bike / E-MTB • Signposting : Yellow circles in both directions • Public transport access : T2C bus (line 4, ‘Ceyrat Mairie’ stop)
Mountain bike warning : the section between Clémensat and Montrognon requires a good effort on the climb. The descent from Montrognon towards Les Montants is short but steep and can be very slippery in wet weather. Good braking control is essential.
