Marking Butterfly
A walk at the foot of the Virgin Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde of Volvic, leading to the medieval castle of Tournoël. Numerous views over the Limagne cereal plain, the Monts du Forez and Riom.

– Church and cross.
– Viewpoint overlooking Riom, the Limagne plain and the Forez mountains.
Step 1 : Opposite the start sign, in the parking lot (medieval fortress), turn right (view of Riom, Limagne plain, Forez mountains) on a long path shared by two circuits. Continue through undergrowth to a clearing.
Step 2 : Go straight ahead. At the fork, turn left to Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde (statue), (view of Volvic, Clermont hills, Livradois-Forez).
Step 3 : Retrace your steps back to point 1 and take a left-hand path along the side of the Puy de la Bannière. At the crossroads in a clearing, head downhill to a T-junction.
Step 4 : Turn right. At the next T junction, after 50 m, turn right and return to the starting point.

Animals are not allowed on some routes.

Access
From Riom’s west exit, take the D986 to Volvic, 5 km away. Avenue de la Libération, turn right onto Route de Tournoël. Parking lot at the foot of the château.
