The Tour des Vaches Rouges: Hiking in the heart of the Cézallier

The Tour des Vaches Rouges is an exceptional hiking trail that crosses the wild high plateaux of the Cézallier, between the Monts du Cantal and the Massif du Sancy. Right in the heart of the Parc naturel régional des Volcans d'Auvergne, this 08 to 11-day tour plunges you into a timeless landscape.

This route offers much more than just panoramic views: it tells the story of the relationship between man and these pastoral lands, through an authentic vernacular heritage and unspoilt nature.

Here, every step is an invitation to contemplate and discover the living world in this unique volcanic territory.

A large, flexible itinerary

The route is 135 km long, divided into 8 stages, with the option of adding two complementary variants: one of 48 km in the Puy-de-Dôme and the other of33.5 km in the Cantal. In all, the most experienced hikers can explore up to 181 km of trails.

Accommodation for walkers

To accompany your adventure, an accommodation booklet has been designed with addresses located close to the trail (less than 2 km). These places can accommodate walkers for the night, in a spirit of comfort and friendliness.
