Sainte-Martine Church

Pont-du-Château

The church of Sainte-Martine is a blend of Romanesque arkose and Gothic Volvic stone.

An early Carolingian church, located at the top of the hill, served as a fortress. It was replaced by the present church, built in the 12th and 13th centuries.

Sainte-Martine church was listed as a historic monument in 1911. The polychrome decoration was faithfully restored in 1994. These decorations can be seen on the 12th-century pillars and arcades, as well as on the 13th-century vaults.
