Nestled high above the city of Clermont-Ferrand, at an altitude of over 500 metres, the site covers almost 1,400 ha. From the north (Croix-de-Neyrat) to the south (Trémonteix), it includes the Var and Chanturgue puys and the southeastern slope of the Côtes plateau.
