Lac d’Aydat – Site naturel volcanique

Aydat

At an altitude of 850 m, Lac d’Aydat is the largest natural lake in Auvergne. Born of a volcanic flow that dammed the valley, it now extends over 65 hectares and reaches a depth of 15 m, in the heart of a wooded, unspoilt environment.

Lac d’Aydat is a remarkable volcanic reservoir, formed when the lava flow from the twin puys of La Vache and Lassolas blocked the valley. The waters of the Veyre then created two natural reservoirs on either side of this flow, known as the Cheire d’Aydat, which is over 8,500 years(…)
