Lac d’Aydat is a remarkable volcanic reservoir, formed when the lava flow from the twin puys of La Vache and Lassolas blocked the valley. The waters of the Veyre then created two natural reservoirs on either side of this flow, known as the Cheire d’Aydat, which is over 8,500 years old.
This emblematic landscape perfectly illustrates the links between volcanism, water and valley morphology in the Chaîne des Puys.
Today, the lake offers a remarkable natural setting for outdoor activities. Many water sports are available: catamaran, dinghy, kayak, rowing, windsurfing, optimist, as well as fishing and swimming in summer. The wooded, unspoilt banks also make it an ideal place for nature observation.
A signposted circuit allows you to walk peacefully around the lake and enjoy several viewpoints of the surrounding landscape, including a beautiful view of the Chaîne des Puys. An ideal way to discover the rich landscape and geology of this emblematic natural site.
