For more than 60 years, the national Villes et Villages Fleuris (Flowering Towns and Villages ) label has been recognising local authorities' commitment to improving the quality of life, the importance of plants, biodiversity and attractiveness.
It recognises local authorities that have invested in landscaping and quality of life. It is open to all communes, and is based on 4 levels of distinction (from 1 to 4 Fleurs):
Communes register at departmental level, and the department supports and selects those eligible for the label. The Region awards the 1st to 3rd Fleurs; the 4th is awarded by the CNVVF (Conseil National des Villes et Villages Fleuris). The label is reassessed every 5 years.

On 20 January 2026, the Puy-de-Dôme departmental council brought together elected representatives and technical staff in Le Cendre for a day of discussions on the sustainable management of public spaces.
Alongside FREDON Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and the Panse Bêtes association, participants discovered simple practices that can be transferred to their local authorities.
Testimonials and demonstrations provided local authorities with practical ideas for making their public spaces more sustainable and welcoming to living creatures.
The 2025 awards ceremony honoured the local authorities involved in the Villes et Villages Fleuris (Towns and Villages in Bloom) scheme, highlighting their efforts to improve the quality of life, develop the use of plants and beautify local areas in a sustainable way. The event was an opportunity to recognise the ongoing commitment of elected representatives and municipal teams, who contribute every day to enhancing the attractiveness of their area.
