Starting from the Espace Loisirs at Lac d’Aydat, mountain bike route No. 8 – ‘From Lakes to Volcanoes’ invites you to immerse yourself fully in the heart of the Chaîne des Puys, a major tectonic site (listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site). This challenging route forms a large loop linking the cool lakes with the area’s volcanic landscapes.

Highlights of the mountain bike route :
• Along the lakes of Aydat and La Cassière : Enjoy sections running close to the lakeshores and wetlands, which add real variety to the route.
• Exceptional volcanic scenery : Ride along the Cheire d’Aydat (a former lava flow now covered in woodland) and criss-cross the foothills of the surrounding puys, with superb panoramic views of the Auvergne domes.
• A physically challenging and varied route : A succession of steady climbs on trails, rolling sections and playful descents through coniferous and deciduous forests.

Difficulty : Level Red – Difficult
This hike is suitable for regular hikers or those with electric-assist bikes. Helmets must be worn. Please bring plenty of water and dress appropriately for the conditions at altitude.
