Route description

Starting at L’Escapad in Saint-Genès-Champanelle, this easy hike takes you to the foot of the Puy de Mercœur. It’s a pleasant loop through unspoiled hamlets, historic sites (a washhouse, a church), and wooded areas in the heart of the Chaîne des Puys.

Discover the local heritage (church, wash-house, oven…) in an atmosphere that is sometimes open and sometimes forested. Stroll : family outing via Beaune Le Chaud (view of the Monts du Sancy), then on to the plain.

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step

Step 1 : Arrivé à la route, traverser en allant tout droit et monter le petit chemin. A la fin de celui-ci, prendre à gauche puis descendre jusqu’à l’église.

Step 2 : Au niveau de l’église, continuer tout droit direction Beaune Le Chaud (poteau directionnel). Suivre les ronds jaunes.

Step 3 : Arrivé à la route, prendre à gauche (suivre ronds jaunes) puis à droite direction Laschamps (poteau directionnel). Suivre ronds jaunes et prendre à gauche à la patte d’oie.

Step 4 : Au petit poteau directionnel, puis à droite direction Laschamps.

Step 5 : Au croisement, continuer tout droit.

Step 6 : Au bout du chemin, prendre à gauche, marcher 100 mètres et reprendre à gauche. Continuer toujours tout droit sur ce chemin.

Step 7 : Au petit poteau directionnel, tourner à gauche direction Beaune Le Chaud.

Step 8 : Au poteau directionnel tourner à gauche direction Beaune Le Chaud.

Step 9 : Prendre le 2ème chemin à droite en bas de la descente (croix jaune).

Step 10 : A la patte d’oie, prendre le chemin de gauche et continuer tout droit jusqu’à la route.

Step 11 : Traverser la route et prendre le chemin en face.

Step 12 : A la route, prendre à gauche et longer la route en montant.

Step 13 : Au 2ème rond point, prendre direction Chatrat. Attention pour se déplacer avec la route sans accotement.

Step 14 : Prendre à droite direction St Genès Champanelle ( petit poteau directionnel), passer devant le stade puis retourner à L’Escapad’.

Road access to L’Escapad’ – 1 chemin du Château – 63122 Saint-Genès-Champanelle Le Bourg.
From Clermont-Ferrand, take the N89 via Beaumont, Ceyrat, Saulzet-Le-Chaud then Theix.
Continue on the D90 to Saint-Genès-Champanelle Le Bourg or via Royat, Charade, Manson then Thèdes (D90).
