A varied day’s walk through refreshing valleys, state-owned woodland and the foothills of the volcanoes

Starting from the car park at the Grotte des Laveuses in Royat (or from Place Allard), this lovely circular walk takes you on a journey through a variety of vegetation in the heart of the Auvergne Volcanoes Regional Nature Park. Linking the course of the Tiretaine to the wetlands where the Artière rises, the route offers a constant variety of landscapes and atmospheres.

Highlights of the route :
• A variety of natural habitats : Walk alongside the water, through the Royat State Forest and across the pastures and moorland stretching out at the foot of the volcanic domes.
• Stunning views & notable stops : Enjoy beautiful panoramic views throughout the route, with the chance to liven up your day with a fun stop at the Charade treetop adventure park.
• A gradual ascent : Although this is a long-distance route, the climb is gentle and steady.
• Relaxation on the way back : On arrival, make the most of the nearby Royatonic spa and leisure centre to round off your day.

Departure :
– By car from Royat, in the Grotte des laveuses parking lot on the banks of the Tiretaine below Avenue de la Vallée.
– By bus from Place Allard up the Tiretaine (5mn)
– From the “Tiretaine” directional mast, take the stairs to “Puy de Chateix”.

Difficulties : Long hike, but very gradual ascent.
