The Grande Traversée du Massif Central (GTMC) is an emblematic mountain bike route that crosses the Massif Central from north to south on almost 1,400km of signposted roads and trails. From the cool of the great lakes of the Morvan to the sunny beaches of the Mediterranean, via the volcanoes of the Auvergne, theCévennes National Park and the plateaux of the Grands Causses, this crossing by mountain bike or electrically-assisted mountain bike is a total immersion in nature.

A legendary route between wilderness and living heritage

Reconfigured in 2018, the new GTMC now covers 1,360 km, linking three regions, ten départements, four Regional Nature Parks and one National Park.

Whether you're an experienced mountain biker or a sports enthusiast, you can tailor your adventure to suit your level of ability: long-distance touring or a few days' escapade, by mountain bike or ATV.

An exceptional itinerary in Puy-de-Dôme

In the Puy-de-Dôme region, the route takes in the spectacular scenery of the Chaîne des Puys - Limagne fault, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This section, over 200 km long, is one of the most emblematic of the GTMC. It combines unspoilt nature, grandiose views, authentic villages and encounters with local know-how.
