Route description

The GR®89 – Chemin de Montaigne links Lyon to Bordeaux via Clermont Ferrand, Limoges and Périgueux. It represents 800 km or around 45 days’ walking, 165 km of which is in the Puy-de-Dôme region.

The GR® 89 follows the route taken by writer and philosopher Michel de Montaigne (1533-1592) in 1581, when, while in Italy, he had to return to Bordeaux, where he had just been elected mayor. Montaigne’s travel diary is a practical tool.

Dogs allowed Dogs must be kept on a leash. Dogs are often present in summer pastures. However, they are strictly forbidden in the Chaudefour Valley Nature Reserve.
