A scenic loop exploring Ceyrat’s volcanic hills and wine-growing heritage

Starting from the Place de la Résistance in Ceyrat (near the Town Hall, with alternative parking available at the Arténium), the ‘Les puys de Montrognon et Chomontel’ route is a very varied walk. Winding its way through three former wine-growing villages, this circuit allows you to admire the impact of vineyards on the landscape whilst climbing two volcanic hills that are emblematic of the area.

Highlights of the walk :
• The volcanic hills of Montrognon and Chomontel : Climbing these hills offers spectacular panoramic views of the Clermont-Ferrand conurbation and the surrounding countryside.
• Wine-growing heritage : The route passes through hamlets and valleys (notably towards Clémensat) where the wine-growing past is still very much evident in the architecture and terraced vineyards.
• Diverse landscapes : A skilful blend of paths through the woodland, trails along the edges of meadows and routes through the heart of charming villages.

• Start / Finish : Place de la Résistance — near the Town Hall (63122 Ceyrat) — Alternative : Arténium car park.
• Signposting : Yellow circles in both directions
• Transport access : T2C bus (line 4, ‘Ceyrat Mairie’ stop)

Route warning : a steep climb between Clémensat and the summit of Montrognon. The descent from Montrognon towards Les Montants is short but steep and can be slippery in wet weather : please take care and wear suitable walking shoes.
